We have begun to work with Martijn van de Dobbelsteen on the garden around this historic building on Zeeburgereiland. It’s a plot full of potential and sand! The building is being lovingly brought back to life as a community hub with art and horeca facilities.
We are looking to quickly build a team of volunteers who want to turn this sandy building site into a beautiful and beneficial dune garden complete with willow woven fences, sand retaining shrubs, reeds and grades, wild flowers and a kitchen herb garden.
Planning has begun. There will be a local herb ID and gathering walk from Lynn in early July and Eelco will begin the garden work with a team of local volunteers on Sunday 17th July at 15:00. Then we’ll run a weekly sand garden session, each Sunday (starting at 15:00) through to the mid Autumn. By then we hope that the team will be well away!
Here is our current plant wishlist for the sand garden:
Jeneverbes – Juniper (endangered species)
Duindoorn – Sea buckthorn
Zeelavas – Sea lovage
Wilde rucola – Wild rocket (yellow flowers)
